BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 14 million people went out for tomb-sweeping to follow the age-old tradition to mourn the deceased during the three-day Qingming Festival season, down 23.8 percent year on year.

This year witnesses more people accepting green ways to sweep tombs and pay homage to the deceased, including presenting flowers instead of burning paper money as well as online memorial activities, said the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Saturday.

The ministry urged civil affairs offices and funeral service institutions at various levels to continue to offer safe and well-organized tomb-sweeping services.
