There are many rivers in Xi’an. Since ancient times, it is celebrated for “eight rivers flowing around Chang’an (the old name for Xi’an in ancient times)”. But recently, the reporter found pollution in the rivers caused by sewage, garbage dumps and other pollution sources has reached alarming level.

This year, the government of Xi'an will plan to construct a number of projects for urban water supply, ecological water diversion, lakes, wetlands and river channel regulation on the basis of ensuring the safety of urban water supply.

The government will invest more than 28 billion yuan and the construction is expected to complete in 2020.
