A baby abandoned inside a sewage pipe was saved by firefighters in Zhejiang province on Sunday. The 2-day-old infant, weighing 2.3 kilograms, was found in the sewage pipe leading from a public toilet on the fourth floor of an apartment building in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on May 25, 2013.The photos of the rescue were released today.
A resident heard the baby crying in the toilet and called firefighters who rushed to the scene. The baby was stuck in the 10-cm diameter pipe.
Firefighters went down to the third floor and cut loose a section of the pipe and took the baby out. The baby was immediately rushed to hospital. Now the baby is in a stable condition, despite severe bruising.
Fei, the baby's mother said that the baby was born when she used the toilet, then slipped down into the sewage pipe. Fei said that she attempted to rescue her baby but failed. After hearing the baby was rescued, Fei went to work as usual because she did not dare to go to the hospital to see her baby.
