Beijing, July 2 (People's Daily Online)- The international conference on "adapting to climate change in China" (ACCC) project kicked off in Beijing today. ACCC project was a joint Chinese-U.K.-Swiss effort to investigate China's understanding of the risk of climate change and its response options in the past four years. The event is to share internationally China's experience of integrating climate adaption into the development process, in order to reduce the vulnerability to climate changes.
About 150 policymakers, legislators and experts from developing countries joined the conference to discuss how responses to climate change can and need to be an integral part of national development planning, and to further explore the good practice and solution available to them.
As world's climate change brings lots of challenges to all countries, decision-maker at all levels must know how to face and respond to these impacts and they need to determine how communities can be protected from extreme climate and how countries can make new opportunities.
The conference gives a chance to decision-makers from more than 35 southern countries of getting expertise on the assessment of climate impacts and risks and practical approaches to climate change adaptation. It also explores the opportunities for international and regional co-operation on the issue and how legislation can be used to deal with the impacts from climate change.
ACCC is a joint project between China's National Development and Reform Commission, the Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation and the U.K. Department for International Development and Department for Energy and Climate Change.
