The grandfather of a toddler who was allowed to urinate on a Metro train by his parents has apologized to the public over the weekend after the incident was harshly criticized.
The incident happened last Thursday when the young couple allowed the child to urinate on a crowded Metro Line 3 carriage. Some urine splashed on the feet of a female passenger. Other passengers criticized the couple but they refused to apologize.
A video of the incident was uploaded online. It showed the father cursing others and threatening to kill one male passenger.
The man also tried to kick the female passenger and was prevented by the child’s grandfather, according to the video.
“You are free to call the police,” the father can be heard saying in the video.
After a male passenger criticized him, the father was heard saying, “I will chop you to death.”
Metro officials and police educated the man afterwards. But because no law was broken, no other action was taken.
The man was widely criticized by the online community, sparking the grandfather to write an apology. The grandfather also appeared on a Shanghai Television Station news report over the weekend to apologize.
“My son is young and immature, and his actions were wrong. I apologize to all of the other passengers on behalf of my family,” he told the TV station.
However, many people used online forums to say the father should apologize.
The grandfather’s apology means the father does not realize he was wrong and he will probably make similar mistakes in the future, said a Netizen identified as SuibiY2013.
Uncivilized behavior is common on Metro trains.
Last week, two women fought each other when they rushed to get a seat on a Line 8 train.
