SHENZHEN, Nov. 22 -- A boy who had his eyes gouged out in north China's Shanxi Province is in good condition after receiving an artificial eye implant, the hospital said on Friday.

The C-MER (Shenzhen) Dennis Lam Eye Hospital published a photo, showing Binbin, 6, playing outdoors and smiling, like any other child.

He had surgery in the hospital on September 10. He had an artificial eye (ocular prosthesis) implanted in his right eye and an eyelid transplant on his left.

He also receives regular psychological guidance and visual rehabilitation training.

Binbin was lured into a field by a woman who gouged out his eyes on Aug. 24. The incident sparked nationwide outrage.

The boy showed extremely insecurity and dependence on his mother two months ago, but has become less dependent and more open, said Dean Dennis Lam of the hospital.
