BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) - China on Wednesday congratulated Serik Akhmetov on being appointed prime minister of Kazakhstan.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei expressed the congratulations and said China is willing to continue to work with Kazakhstan to further develop the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership and bring benefits to the two peoples.

"China and Kazakhstan are good neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners. The two countries enjoy broad development prospects," Hong said in response to a media request for comment after a regular press briefing.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree ratifying the posting on 24th.

Akhmetov, 54, earned a doctorate at a college of management in Russia in the early 1990s.

Prior to his appointment as first deputy prime minister in a cabinet reshuffle earlier this year, he served as governor of his native Karaganda District in central Kazakhstan. Most viewed commentaries
