Japan should get used to China’s Diaoyu patrols

(People's Daily Online)

08:09, October 10, 2012

China has maintained a group of fishery administration and ocean surveillance ships in waters just off the Diaoyu Islands during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, in order to safeguard its rightful sovereignty over the islands.

Japan is not used to this. While lodging unreasonable protests, it acted as if it had been bullied. However, its shows are pointless, except that they can help vent anxiety. It is natural for China to send fishery administration and ocean surveillance ships to demonstrate its sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands and patrol waters surrounding the islands. The Diaoyu Islands and its adjacent islets are an inherent part of Chinese territory. Chinese ships have been patrolling waters surrounding the islands and its adjacent islets on a regular basis since 2010. Both the fishery administration and ocean surveillance ships will fulfill their mission of safeguarding China’s sovereignty over the islands.

Without such adherence, China’s territorial sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests would be infringed, and the Chinese people could not really enjoy their holidays.
