MANAMA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China calls on the international community to swiftly find a political solution to the ongoing Syrian crisis and to allow the Syrian people to determine the process of political transition on their own, a Chinese envoy said here on Friday.

The speeding up of the spillover the Syrian crisis poses a serious threat to the region and the world at large, said Wu Sike, China's special envoy to the Middle East, at the three-day Manama Dialogue 2012, which focuses on security developments in the Gulf region.

The international community should coordinate with the efforts of Lakhdar Brahimi, the joint special representative of the United Nations and the Arab League on Syria, to implement the common view of searching for a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis so as to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible and start dialogue, Wu said at the opening session of the event, which would be attended by 370 representatives from 30 countries.

China neither has self-interest nor seek to obtain any concerning the Syrian crisis, Wu stressed, adding that what China wishes to safeguard is the peace and stability of the region, as well as the fundamental and long-term interest of the Syrian people.

He, meanwhile, said that China would continue providing aid to the Syrian people as well as those who were seeking refuge outside the country.
