Should China continue to keep a low-profile attitude?

General Secretary of CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping stressed in a recent interview with the media, "We are proud but not complacent." Xi's words are very instructive and are a part of the spirit of 18th CPC National Congress.

In recent years, some people in China always want to make a challenge to the guideline of " keep a low profile and bide our time, while also getting something accomplished " proposed by Deng Xiaoping, saying that China should abandon the low profile as it has become the world's second largest economy. It is indeed the mentality of a "nouveau riche."

These people do not really understand the meaning of the sentence. "Keeping a low profile,” means being modest and prudent, rather than arrogant and complacent. Like a person, a state should also be practical, realistic, modest and prudent, rather than domineering and making enemies everywhere.

Deng Xiaoping was a man of great wisdom and he was far-sighted to propose the guideline of "keep a low profile and bide our time, while also getting something accomplished." Deng had predicted that China would be faced with a thorny path in rising. Foreign countries show doubts about China's adherence to the road of peaceful development. The rise of China means the rise of 1.3 billion people, which certainly will break the current pattern of interests and draw attention of international community.
