SEOUL, March 20 (Xinhua) -- South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se had a telephone conversation with Chinese new Foreign Minister Wang Yi late Tuesday, the South Korean foreign ministry said Wednesday.

During their 40-minute phone talks, Yun called on Wang to work diligently over enforcing the latest UN sanctions against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and the two ministers agreed to work together to address the nuclear issue through peaceful means.

The UN Security Council on March 7 unanimously passed Resolution 2094, imposing tougher sanctions on the DPRK as punishment for its third nuclear test. Analysts believe that China can play an important role in the Korean Peninsula.

Yun also called on China for cooperate "to make North Korea ( DPRK) a responsible member of the international community," South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported, citing a foreign ministry statement.
