BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Senior legislator Zhang Baowen on Monday went to the Bangladeshi Embassy in Beijing to mourn the death of Bangladeshi President Zillur Rahman.

Zhang, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature, expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Chinese government.

Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Muhammad Azizul Haque expressed appreciation for Zhang's condolences.

Rahman died last Wednesday in a Singaporean hospital. The 84-year-old veteran politician was installed as the ceremonial head of state in 2009 after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Bangladesh Awami League won general elections in December 2008.
