Western and Asian media have reported on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambaev in Bishkek. The reports are mainly focused on Xi’s proposal to build a Silk Road economic belt with Central Asian countries, and the development opportunities it will bring.

French news agency AFP reported that Kyrgyzstan has attached great importance to Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the country. The agency quotes Kyrgyz president Almazbek Atambaev as saying that Kyrgyzstan appreciates the political and economic help China has offered. AFP commented that the visit shows China is having more influence in Central Asia.

The Chinese newspaper Nouvelle D’europe in France reported that Xi’s visit was fruitful and the cooperation between China and central Asia countries has entered a golden period. The newspaper says one of the most important goals for central Asian nations over the past two decades is to get more involved in the international community, and they hope to draw impetus from China for their own development. To build a Silk Road economic belt in the region will be an all-win initiative for the relevant nations. It means they will have more practical economic and trade cooperation in the future.

A report of the Chinese newspaper Lianhezaobao in Singapore says the joint declaration issued after talks between Xi Jinping and Atambaev was a milestone. It means the two countries will expand and strengthen cooperation in such areas as economy, energy, security and cultural exchanges. And more importantly, the declaration says China will build a strategic partnership with Kyrgyzstan.

And, Thailand’s Asia News Network says to build a Silk Road economic belt will bring enormous development opportunities for Central Asia. The economic belt will not only boost regional economic development, but also help safeguard security and stability in the region. Central Asian countries should seize the opportunity to restore the economic belt and seek better development.
