Wang Zhaoguo



Wang Zhaoguo, a native of Fengrun, Hebei Province, was born in July 1941. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in December 1965 and began working in September 1966. He graduated from the specialty of turbo machine of the Department of Power Generating Machine of Harbin Institute of Technology. As a university graduate, he holds the title as an engineer.

He serves as member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, vice-chairman of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee and member of its Leading Party Member Group, and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.

1961-1966: Student majoring in turbo machine of the Department of Power Generating Machine of Harbin Institute of Technology.

1966-1968: Stayed at the institute and waited for job assignment.

1968-1979: Technician of the Axle Plant of the Second Automotive Works, deputy secretary of the CYLC organization of the Axle Plant, secretary of the CYLC organization of the Second Automotive Works, member of the Standing Committee of the factory Party Committee, deputy director of the Political Department of the plant and first secretary of the Party Committee of the Body Plant and member of the Standing Committee of Shiyan Municipal Party Committee of Hubei Province.

1979-1982: Deputy director of the Second Automotive Works and secretary of its Party Committee.

1982-1984: First secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CYLC and president of the CYLC School.

1984-1985: Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

1985-1986: Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Party Committee of Departments under the CPC Central Committee.

1986-1987: Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Party Committee of Departments under the CPC Central Committee.

1987-1990: Deputy secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, deputy governor, acting governor and governor of Fujian Province.

1990-1991: Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

1991-1992: Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

1992-1993: Head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

1993-1996: Vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, a member of its Leading Party Member Group, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

1996-2002: Vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, member of its Leading Party Member Group and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.

2002-: Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of its Leading Party Member Group and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.

March 15, 2003, Wang Zhaoguo was elected vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC).

He was a member of the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th CPC Central Committees, member of the Secretariat of the 12th CPC Central Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National People's Congress and vice-chairman of the eighth and ninth CPPCC National Committee. He is member of the 16th CPC Central Committee and member of its Political Bureau.
