Wu Jichuan



Wu Jichuan (1937- ), native of Changning, Hunan Province.

Minister of Information Industry.

Wu graduated from the Department of Wire Communication Engineering at the Beijing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications in 1959. Joined CPC, 1960.

Wu has worked in the posts and telecommunications sector for more than 30 years. He served successively as technician, division chief, bureau director, vice minister and minister.

He served as minister of Posts and Telecommunications, 1993-1998.

He became deputy secretary, Standing Committee member, and president of Party School, of CPC the Henan Provincial Committee in 1990.

He was appointed deputy head of Leading Group for Information Work of State Council, 1996.

Wu was appointed minister of Information Industry, March 1998.

Wu was elected alternate member of CPC 14th Central Committee, 1992, and member of 15th CPC Central Committee, 1997; deputy to 8th and 9th NPC, 1993 and 1998.

Wu does not have any special hobbies. He likes everything, but he is short of time. While working in Henan Province, 1990-1993, he often worked late into the night and had no time for other activities. "Anyway, I am good at cooking," he said. "Whenever there are guests coming to my home, I do the cooking. But I'm too busy to have many chances like that," he added.

Like many officials with an intellectual background, Wu has a harmonious family. He married Gong Shuangjin, 1960, who is an expert in the field of telecommunications transmission.

He has two daughters.
