On October 8, 1941, hundreds of believers in Li Gua Taoism, a feudalistic and superstitious organization in Licheng, Shanxi Province, were manipulated by Chinese collaborators and secret agents into staging an armed rebellion. They attempted to occupy the county seat, overthrow the anti-Japanese government, organize a puppet regime and throw in their lot with the Japanese aggressors. The Licheng County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the Licheng county government promptly led anti-Japanese troops and the people in suppressing the rebellion.
