The Liaoxi-Shenyang Campaign was a decisive campaign against Kuomintang troops fought by the PLA Northeast Field Army in western Liaoning Province and in the Shenyang-Changchun area between September 12 and November 2, 1948. During this campaign 470,000 Kuomintang troops were wiped out and the whole of the northeast was liberated. This victory plus victories on other battlefields during the same period brought about a fundamental change in the military situation of the country, so that the PLA, which for a long time had been superior in quality, now became superior in number as well.
