This refers to a wall at Xidan in the Western District of Beijing, where people were then putting up big-character posters. Some persons with ulterior motives used it to disrupt public order and security and to carry on other unlawful activities. On December 6, 1979, the Beijing Municipal Revolutionary Committee issued a notice banning big-character posters on ``Xidan Wall''.
