Gao Gang (1905-54), a native of Hengshan, Shaanxi Province, served as a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Northeast Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Central People's Government. When he was transferred to the Central Committee to hold the post of Chairman of the State Planning Commission in 1953, he stepped up efforts to split the Party and usurp supreme Party leadership and state power. He was exposed in 1954. In March 1955 the National Conference of the Chinese Communist Party passed a resolution and expelled him from the Party.
