A reference to the counter-revolutionary clique of Jiang Qing, Zhang Chunqiao, Yao Wenyuan and Wang Hongwen that was formed during the "cultural revolution". After the death of Mao Zedong in September 1976, this clique intensified its efforts to seize supreme power in the Party and the state. On October 6 of that year the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, in compliance with the will of the Party, the army and the people, broke up the clique and put an end to the disastrous "cultural revolution".
