Masayoshi Ohira (1910-1980), a Liberal Democrat, was Prime Minister of Japan from 1978 to 1980. He had visited China in December 1979 at the head of a delegation from the Japanese government. During a talk with Mr. Ohira, Deng had predicted that China would achieve comparative prosperity by the end of the century.
