Ren Bishi (1904-1950), a native of Xiangyin County, Hunan Province, joined the CPC in 1922. At the August 7 Meeting of 1927 he was elected to the Provisional Political Bureau of the Central Committee. At the Fourth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee, held in 1931, he was elected to the Political Bureau. He held such posts as secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Area and political commissar of the Hunan-Jiangxi Military Command, chairman of the Military and Administrative Council of the Sixth Army Group of the Red Army, political commissar of the Second Front Army of the Red Army and director of the General Political Department of the Eighth Route Army. In 1940 he began to serve in the Secretariat of the Central Committee. At the First Plenary Session of the Seventh Central Committee, held in 1945, he was elected a member of the Political Bureau and of the Secretariat. He died of illness in Beijing on October 27, 1950.
