Sports South Korea Honored as Asian Team of the Month

The South Korean Under-23 side won on Wednesday the Asian Team of the Month award for its performance in the qualifying campaign for the 2000 Olympics.

Last Saturday's 1-1 draw with China at Shanghai left Huh Jong Moo's squad virtually certain to clinch one of the three Asian qualifying spots for next year's Sydney Olympics.

Huh was named the Asian Football Confederation's Coach of the Month for his efforts in putting together the student-based side which led the group standings with seven points.

Saudi Arabian striker Talal Al Meshal won the Player of the Month award after scoring all the of his side's three goals in their Olympic qualifiers -- a 4-1 defeat over Qatar and a 2-1 win over Kuwait.

Hidetoshi Nakata, Asia's current Player of the Year, earned the Goal of the Month award for his strike in Japan's 2-0 victory over Kazakhstan in Almaty.
