Culture China's Ethnic Cultures Give Inspiration to Modern Fashion Designer

"It is my dream that China's diverse ethnic clothes and ornaments are used in the modern fashion industry," said Wu Haiyan, a well-known Chinese fashion designer.

Wu has always had a proclivity for China's traditional and ethnic clothing. She brought her "Splendid Epoch" Collection to the international stage, which melded clothing styles from the Sui and Tang dynasties (581-907A.D.).

Wu said that China has 55 ethnic groups with their own unique fashion styles. But bringing these tradition to life does not simply involve copying traditional designs. Making fashionable ethnic clothes is based on market research and studies in ethnic minority regions, said Wu.

Wu has gained a wealth of experience and a steady clientele in the fashion industry at home and abroad promoting her ethnic clothing in Shanghai, Hong Kong and America.
