China Senior Lawmaker on Formulation of Legislation Law

The formulation of the legislation law is a critical part of China's lawmaking work and of vital importance to the success of the rule of law in China, according to a senior Chinese lawmaker.

Jiang Chunyun, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remark during his November 25- December 5 inspection tour to Shenzhen, China's first special economic zone, and three cities in Guangdong Province, south China.

Jiang emphasized that China's legislators must study Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory, which are the foundation of China's legislative work.

"While no state law or regulation is allowed to contradict the constitution, which is a basic principle of legislative work," the NPC vice-chairman stressed, adding: "local legislative work should take local realities into consideration."

He called on China's lawmakers to keep in mind the achievements of the Communist Party of China and the state so that local legislative work could serve to promote the country's reform, economic progress and social stability.

Jiang also urged Chinese lawmakers to use advanced foreign experience in the field as reference, and called for stronger Party leadership.
