Culture Tang Dynasty Cultural Relics Unearthed in Inner Mongolia

More than 70 pieces of pottery and over one hundred pieces of boneware, along with two complete millstones and coins and bronze ornaments from the Tang Dynasty ( 618-907) were recently excavated in Horinger County in north China 's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Chen Yongzhi, a member of the Inner Mongolia Institute of Archeology, said that it is rare to find so many intact pottery and boneware objects, and that the millstones and coins suggest that not only farming, but also a prosperous society might have existed in the area.

He added that the discovery will enable people to gain a clearer and a more comprehensive understanding of the production and living conditions in Inner Mongolia during the Tang Dynasty.

An unearthed porcelain camel was also found intact with colors that remain bright after all these centuries.

The discovered ruin covers about 700 sq.m and is composed of a set of dwellings, a dozen wells, and nearly 100 caves, with pottery pieces and animal bones scattered around.

Archeologists say that Horinger County is known to have been a military garrison during the Tang Dynasty, and dozens of discoveries were made there in the 1950s and 1960s.

Inner Mongolia was at the extreme edge of Tang Dynasty territory. (Xinhua)
