China Wei Jianxing Meets Uruguayan Vice-President

Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Vice-President of Uruguay and President of the Uruguayan National Congress Hugo Fernandez Faingold in this capital city of northwest China's Shaanxi Province on December 12.

Recalling his visit to Uruguay in May this year, Wei said that Sino-Uruguayan relations have been good and the two sides have maintained frequent high-level exchanges. Bilateral economic and trade relations have been expanding since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1988.

"We are grateful for the Uruguayan government's support in China's entry into the World Trade Organization," Wei said. He also praised Faingold's efforts in promoting Sino-Uruguayan relations.

Faingold said he was happy to meet Wei again. Faingold had good discussions with President Jiang Zemin and Vice-President Hu Jintao during his stay in Beijing, and called his visit a success. Faingold said he believes that Sino-Uruguayan relations will develop even further in the 21st century.
