Culture Scroll Declared China's Longest Publication

The Shanghai head office of the Guinness Book of World Records has recently announced that a 36.65-meter-long and 26-centimeter-wide scroll is China's longest publication.

The scroll is the reduced format of a painting some 100 meters long which depicts the scenery of north China's Shanxi Province.

It took Chinese artists Zhang Yinlin, Li Heng and Guo Xiaochen more than three years to complete the painting, which shows more than 120 scenic spots, including some 150 majestic ancient temples.

Compared with the original painting, the scroll is easier for people to view, carry or preserve. Its weighs only two kilograms.

The scroll, both an exquisite artwork and a valuable tourism souvenir, was printed by the Shanxi People's Publishing House in January 1999.
