Sino-Greek Trade Ties Progress Smoothly

Trade relations between China and Greece have in recent years been improved steadily, experts said on January 13 at a seminar held in Athens focusing on China's prospects for the 21st century.

The seminar was organized by the Athens-based Institute of International Economic Relations (IIER).

Spyros Dokianos, former Greek ambassador to Beijing, said that balance of trade between Greece and China has improved of late for the former.

Greece's exports to China stood at 10 million US dollars a few years ago, he said, adding that it now amounts to some 70 million dollars.

Marbles exports especially, along with fertilizers sales and Silver& Baryte's expansion to China, was cited by the veteran diplomat.

Currently, China's exports to Greece totals 350 million dollars from approximately 300 million dollars.

Dokianos noted that cultural exchanges have also increased and that a growing number of Greek tourists are choosing China as their destination.

In terms of his observations on the present state of affairs in China, a new China has opened up to the world, the former ambassador said. (Xinhua)
