World Ecuador's Mahuad Seeks Political Asylum in Chile

Deposed Ecuadorian President Jamil Mahuad has asked for political asylum in Chile, charge d'affaires of the Chilean embassy in Quito, Luis Palma told Radio Cooperative in Santiago on January 22.

Meanwhile, Ecuador's former military chief and coup leader Carlos Mendoza announced the formation of an interim government on Friday.
