Business China Sees Growth in Export of Electronic, Information Products

China exported 36.04 billion U.S. dollars worth of electronic and information products in the first 11 months of 1999, a rise of 44.6 percent year on year.

The figure accounted for 20.6 percent of the country's total export between January and November last year.

According to the Ministry of Information Industry, China's exports of electronic information products increased at an annual average rate of 28.9 percent between 1991 and 1998. This compared with the 13.2-percent annual growth rate of the country's total import and export during the eight years.

Ministry statistics show that export of computers and related products gained a hefty increase of 52.9 percent to 10.89 billion dollars during the January-November period, while that of telecommunications and consumer electronics grew 48 percent and 40 percent, respectively, to 4.1 billion dollars and nine billion dollars.

A ministry official said that the increased export of electronic and information products played an important role in realizing China's economic growth target in 1999 and stimulating domestic demand.
