HK Aims to Become World City in Asia

Hong Kong outlined on Monday a strategic framework to make the region Asia's World City as well as a major city in China, according to a report from the China Radio International.

The framework is included in a document called "Bringing the Vision to Life, Hong Kong's long-term Development Needs and Goals", which was released by the Strategic Development Commission of Hong Kong, a high-level advisory group comprising leaders from the SAR government, the business sector, the academia and others.

The Commission, chaired by SAR Chief Executive Tung, believes that Hong Kong must strengthen its links with the mainland, enhance its competitiveness, improve its quality life and reinforce its identity and image if it is to realize its long-term vision.

The Commission defines seven key industry sectors and focus areas that will support Hong Kong's positioning as Asia's World City. They include financial and business services, trade, tourism, information services, innovation and technology.
