China Releases Report on Children

China lately published its first book introducing and analyzing the current situation of its children, raising the advantages and problems in child development.

"New Discovery --Report on the Current Development of Chinese Children," edited by the Chinese Juvenile Research Center, summarized the achievements in this field in the past decade.

The book points out that today's Chinese children pay more attention to self development, have a strong sense of equality, and are fond of taking part in collective activities.

However, they face some problems. Some urban children have little time to do household chores, over half of them get an insufficient time for rest, while others have little opportunity to participate in organized activities.

The team began its research last May among some 4000 children in 45 counties in ten provinces.

They also asked that the society pay attention to the health of children, especially their physiological well-being, and provide more opportunities for them to exercise, as well as reduce their homework load.
