CCPPR: Choosing "Taiwan Independence" Means Choosing War

The white paper "The One-China Principle and the Taiwan Issue" shows the strong determination of the Chinese government and people to oppose separatism and "Taiwan independence". Choosing "Taiwan independence" means choosing war, and certain number of people on the island should have a clear understanding of this.

This is the unanimous view of the participants attending a forum held by the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification (CCPPR).

Wang Guangying, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the CCPPR, spoke at the forum, reiterating that "peaceful reunification" and the "one country, two systems" principle is China's basic policy. "We know that Taiwan compatriots are longing for peace," but separatist activities and "Taiwan independence" will make it impossible to realize peace across the Taiwan Straits, Wang said.

Wang criticized some people in Taiwan who are advocating " Taiwan independence" on the one hand, and on the other, are spreading rumors on so-called "good-will reconciliation, lasting peace" to cheat Taiwan people.

"We must be on high alert and firmly destroy 'Taiwan independence' and separatist forces who are attempting to separate Taiwan from China", he said.

The CCPPR, a non-government organization, will continue to promote and develop exchanges across the Taiwan Straits to push forward reunification at an earlier date in line with the "one country, two systems" principle and President Jiang Zemin's eight-point proposition, Wang said.
