China Aims to Increase Textile Products Exports

China plans to increase its textile products export to 60-65 billion US dollars in 2005, up about 46 percent from the current level.

Chinese Customs figures show that China exported 41.27 billion US dollars worth of textile products last year, up about 2.0 percent. The exports accounted for 21 percent of China's total exports for that year.

The report predicted that the exports of textile products is expected to reach 48 billion US dollars this year.

In addition, the country will increase its fiber processing capacity to 13 million tons in 2005 from the expected 10 million tons in 2000, the paper quoted the State Administration of Textile Industry as saying.

Du Yuzhou, director general of the administration, said China will also strive to improve the quality of its textile products.

Chinese textile mills will raise the proportion of some raw materials in the country's overall textile industry. The proportion of combed yarns will reach 35 percent from the current 16 percent, and the proportion of knotless yarns from 28 percent to 50 percent, the report said.

The director general also urged Chinese enterprises to increase the production and export of decorative and industrial-use textile products as the demand is expected to rise quickly.
