PLA Garrison in HKSAR to Make HK Green

Together with over 1,000 children scouts, students and citizens of HK, 500 soldiers of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Garrison in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will climb the mountain and plant trees on March 26 as part of the effort to make HK green. This will be the first time that the PLA Garrison will participate in local community activities.

"Afforesting HK in 2000, Enjoying a Healthy Life in the New Century" is taken as the slogan. This year will see the third HK Arbor Day. The tree-planting ceremony is to be held on March 26 in HK Dalan Suburb Park. Chief Executive of the HKSAR Tung Chee Hwa, director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong Jiang Enzhu, commissioner of China's Foreign Ministry Office in Hong Kong Ma Yuzhen and Commander of the PLA Garrison in Hong Kong Xiong Ziren will be invited to be honorary chairmen of the preparatory committee and the guests presiding over the ceremony.
