Hong Kong Launches District Teacher Network

A two-year pilot scheme to facilitate experience exchange and establish a mutual assistance network among teachers was launched on March 25 with the aim of enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The scheme, entitled District Teacher Network, will disseminate 40 cases of quality teaching among teachers from all secondary and primary schools and kindergartens in the SAR.

The Steering Committee of the scheme, with members drawn from educational organizations and representatives from the Education Department, the Quality Education Fund and the school sector, is responsible for the planning and promotion of the network.

It will invite tertiary institutions to conduct research on cases of quality teaching so as to combine practical experience with teaching theory to enhance the effectiveness of teaching.

Officiating at the launching ceremony, Director of Education Fanny Law said that the establishment of the network is a piece of good news for both teachers and students.

"The establishment of district teacher networks would forge the partnership among schools and enable teachers to share their experience and work in collaboration with one another," she said.

Teachers might also draw on the successful experiences of their fellow colleagues in designing learning models more suitable for their students, she added.
