Ceremonies to Commemorate of Chinese Nation's Ancestor

Ceremonies will be held in Xinzheng City in central China's Henan Province on April 2 to commemorate Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor), the reputed ancestor of the Chinese nation.

Some 200 Compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, Chinese nationals residing overseas and foreigners of the Chinese ancestry are expected to come to attend the ceremonies in the city, which has been cited as the birthplace of Huangdi, said a local culture official.

Chinese nationals residing in the United States, France, Japan, Thailand, Singapore all over the world believe that they are the descendants of Yandi and Huangdi, both ancestors, the official said. The Chinese nation has had a long history of holding memorial ceremonies for ancestors.

The Henan Provincial Government has hosted memorial ceremonies for Huangdi every year since 1994. And this year's event is to be jointly sponsored by the provincial tourism bureau and a Hong Kong-based international friendship association.

In recent years, the city has found a dozen historical traces connected with Huangdi, and has raised a large amount of funds to protect, repair and restore these sites, according to the official.
