FM Spokesman on China-EU Talks on WTO

China hopes to reach an agreement with the European Union on China's entry into the World Trade Organization as soon as possible.

An early deal is in the interests of both China and EU, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said at a regular press conference.

Sun said that Pascal Lamy, trade commissioner of the European Commission, arrived in Beijing Tuesday to hold talks with a Chinese delegation headed by Shi Guangsheng, Chinese minister of foreign trade and economic cooperation, on China's WTO accession.

China and the European Union have maintained long-term friendly relations and take each other as important trade partners, Sun said, adding that the Chinese leadership has paid much attention to Sino-EU WTO negotiations.
