China Launches Anti-Counterfeit-Money Drive

The Chinese authorities have launched a six-month long nationwide campaign against criminals engaged in forging false bank notes

This was announced at a State Council teleconference on counterfeit money, which was attended by officials from the People's Bank of China, the Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Procuratorate, and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

The conference also announced that a joint action leading group has been established by the five departments.

The campaign is mainly targeting counterfeit-money producers and vendors in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hunan, Sichuan, Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Shandong, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Hebei provinces, Chongqing and Beijing municipalities, and the Guangxi and Inner Mongolia ethnic autonomous regions.

Each of these 16 provincial-level administrative areas should appoint a leading government official to take charge of the local campaign.

The localities will set up special squads to carry out the campaign, with the police as the main force.
