Customs Bordering Macao Cracks Biggest Car Smuggling Case

The Gongbei Customs of Zhuhai City, which controls the entries and exits from Macao, seized 81 smuggled cars worth 3.8 million yuan on April 5, a customs officer said in Zhuhai of Guangdong Provice on April 10.

It is the biggest car smuggling case in the customs' history, the officer said.

The illegal cargo included luxury cars such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, and automobile parts. The cargo left Hong Kong on April 5 and was apprehended that night in the course of check-in procedures.

The officer said that the customs has uncovered three car smuggling cases so far this year, seizing 155 cars valued at 8.25 million yuan.
