Guangzhou Expects Double Digit Economic Growth

Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, will keep a 13 percent growth in its GDP this year, said Mayor Lin Shusen.

While delivering a government work report to a recent session of Guangzhou People's Congress, Mayor Lin pledged a six percent rise in disposable income for urban residents in 2000.

The city must redouble efforts to make a success of eight major tasks in order to fulfill the economic growth goal set for this year, said the mayor.

The eight major tasks include enlarging domestic demand, expanding fund-raising channels and improving investment structure, intensifying market construction and expanding overseas markets.
