China Expresses Strong Resentment, Regret over Dalai Lama's Japan Trip

China April 13 expressed "strong resentment and regret" over Japan allowing the Dalai Lama into the country, in disregard of repeated representations made by the Chinese side.

In response to a question at a regular press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said, the Dalai Lama is definitely not merely an ordinary religious figure but a political exile who has long been engaged in activities to split China under the cloak of religion.

China demands that Japan honor its commitment in acknowledging that the Tibet issue is an internal affair of China, be as good as its words, so as to safeguard the overall Sino-Japanese relations, Sun said.
