China Urges Cancellation of Dalai Lama's Tour to DenmarkChina expressed the hope that the Danish government will take concrete actions to honor its repeatedly advocated position that Tibet is part of the Chinese territory, and not to allow the Dalai Lama to go to Denmark for any activities, and to cancel a meeting between Danish prime minister and the Dalai Lama, thus promoting the smooth development of Sino-Danish relations on a healthy track.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi made the remarks in response to a question concerning this matter at a press conference here this afternoon. The Chinese side does not like to see any damage to bilateral relations because of the Dalai Lama issue, and also has made clear its position to the Danish side, Sun said, adding China hopes that Denmark will deal with the matter in a prudent and proper manner. "We believe that this is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples," he said. It is known to all that the Dalai Lama is the leader of the so-called "exiled Tibetan government", a political figure in exile who has long engaged in activities aiming at splitting the motherland and undermining national unity under the pretext of religion, the spokesman pointed out. "We are firmly opposed to the connivance and support of any foreign government, organization or individual for Dalai's separatist activities, and are also opposed to any invitation in any name and form for the Dalai Lama by any official quarters from any countries or regions, or meeting between them," Sun said. He said that next month will be the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark, and bilateral relations have exhibited good growth momentum, which is hard-won and something the two sides should cherish.
