Vice President Hu Meets Gabonese Minister

Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao said in Beijing April 21 that China is ready to explore new ways of cooperation in new areas with Gabon to further push forward Sino- Gabonese friendly relations.

He made the remark during a meeting with Jean Ping, minister of State and minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and French Countries of Gabon. The Gabonese minister arrived here Thursday morning for a week-long official visit.

Hu said that China appreciates the Gabonese Government's stance on its relationship with China, its pursuit of the one-China policy and support for China's reunification cause.

In the 26 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, the two countries have conducted fruitful cooperation in areas of politics, economy, trade and culture. They have also had close cooperation in many international affairs, noted Hu.

The Chinese vice president also expressed appreciation for the Gabonese Government's efforts in promoting national stability, unity among its ethnic groups, and economic recovery as well as regional unity, cooperation and development in the country.

Jean Ping said that his country places high value on its relationship with China, and is thankful for China's long-term assistance. He pledged that Gabon will continue to stick to the one-China policy, and will work together with China to expand cooperation in various areas.

He said he appreciates China's proposal to hold a ministerial- level China-Africa Cooperation Forum in Beijing, and wishes the forum success.

The Gabonese minister is here at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan. He is scheduled to stay in China until April 26.
