Minmetals Hot Item at China's Export Fair

The ongoing 87th China Export Commodity Fair in this capital of south China's Guangdong Province is witnessing swift mine and metal products transactions.

Deals involving exports worth some 235 million US dollars were sealed in the first five days of trading at the fair, which opened on April 15.

This figure is 48 percent up from the same period of the previous Spring session of the fair, signaling a resurgence of the steel, iron, and non-ferrous metals market following a downturn after the Asian financial crisis.

Minmetal exports destined for the European Union worth US$ 60 million accounts for 25 percent of the total, and those to the U.S. and Japan increased by a large margin to 28 million US dollars and 24.8 million US dollars, respectively.

Insiders say that export prices for minmetals saw an overall increase as a result of the recovery of the international price.
