Topnotch Scientists Met on China's Nuclear Power Development

The "Engineering Science and Technology Forum" of China called its second session in Beijing Tuesday, at which over 10 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and experts from the field of nuclear energy are present.

Views were exchanged by experts on China's sustainable development and national use of nuclear-electric power and security at the forum.

Experts pointed out that nuclear-electric power takes an important place in nonrecurring types of energy in world energy structure, and coal has been a long-standing dominant energy used in China. This energy structure has not only brought serious environment pollution but has also exerted heavy pressures on sustainable environmental development of China.

The experts are quoted as saying therefore that the main task China's energy industry faces is to promote a change of the country's energy structure. They demand that for a great development of hydropower, nuclear-electric power, new-type energies, and a high efficient utilization of energy for alleviating environmental pollution relevant policies should be duly adopted.

The experts also express their hope that departments concerned should make intensive study on investment, technology, resources and security involved in developing nuclear-electric power in China.
