Tibet Plans to Build Big Numbers of Projects

The government of the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China has planned to invest a total of 206.7 billion yuan in the construction of 1,350 projects in the near future.

Top priority will be given to key projects closely connected with infrastructure facilities and the ecological environment, a government official said.

This year the regional government will focus on 68 major construction projects, including 29 newly-launched ones which will cost 2.23 billion yuan. Infrastructure projects include an optical fiber cable between Gala and Tingre, and the renovation of the Gonggar Airport.

Tibet will also inject 1.42 billion yuan into ecological environment projects in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the country's longest, in the counties of Jomda, Gongjo and Markam this year.

Another ecological environment project in the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River will cost 7.22 billion yuan.
