Hong Kong Chief Executive Calls for Support for China's PNTR

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has called for the United States Congress to approve Permanent Normal Trade Relations status to China.

Tung Chee Hwa told a visiting U.S. presidential delegation that China's accession to the World Trade Organisation would benefit world trade.

He predicts that WTO membership will double China's external trade and foreign investment within six to seven years.

The Chief Executive says this will definitely benefit Hong Kong and its two largest trading partners - the United States and the Chinese mainland. �
