Confucius' Residence Opened to Tourists

Qufu, the hometown of the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius, has opened his residence to tourists.

The site, located between home of Confucius' descendants and the Confucius temple, is nearly 2,500 years old, according to a local tourism official.

Confucius was brought to Qufu by his mother when he was three years old, and he lived in the house for most of life, the official said.

Inside the residence are dozens of valuable historical relics, such as ceremonial articles, stone inscriptions, steles, paintings, and calligraphic works.

The home has long been closed, and this is its first opening to the public.

Qufu, in Shandong province, is one of China's famous historical and cultural cities, with 110 tourism destinations. It receives over two million visitors a year.
